CASE STUDY
One of the leading causes for insurance claims is water damage. From plumbing issues to natural disasters, water damage needs immediate action to prevent further decay and safety issues.
In early August, our team received an enquiry to assess water damage in a multi-storey residential apartment block in Fortitude Valley. Shortly after, we arrived at the premises to conduct an initial inspection on the damage.
The project commenced with an initial mitigation of the property, before receiving access to commence work on restoring 11 units impacted by sewage damage and subsequent mould contamination.
Our process started with assessing the damages throughout the affected area and addressing any immediate issues. On the sixth floor, we determined a damaged sewage pipe in the riser of a unit as the source. The sewage pipe came apart, causing further sewage to trail down the riser and into units across five floors below.
The initial inspection of the property involved:
During this inspection, we installed HEPA filtration systems and dehumidifiers across the impacted units to commence immediate drying restoration. To prevent further mould growth, the affected area was treated with antimicrobial resistance to target and eradicate bacteria.
Within two days, we had assessed the 11 impacted units and obtained approval for the required scope of work to commence the project.
After the scope of work was approved by the relevant regulatory authorities, the recovery project was able to officially commence.
Damage throughout the affected 11 units included:
On completion of remediation, we performed our own final assessment of the property to guarantee all results met our high standard for restorations before involving an independent third party to conduct a post-remediation verification clearance. This process ensured an unbiased analysis to represent the collective interests of the remediator, builder, insurer and/or insured. Samples of surface and air particles were tested in each unit to give a clear indication of any remaining contamination.
